Project description: Molecular evolution of cnidarian organelles
Our group at the Centre of Organismal Studies (COS), Heidelberg, focuses on the molecular evolution of extracellular matrix and signaling factors. We are working with the model organism Hydra, a member of the basal metazoan group of cnidarians, which is famous for its unparalleled regenerative capacity.
Here, we are looking for PhD student, who is interested in analyzing the evolutionary origin of collagen molecules and other ECM factors in the mesoglea and specialized organelles of Hydra. The offered project blends proteomic screens with high-resolution imaging of expression patterns and functional knock-down (siRNA, CRISPR/Cas) as well as biochemical studies.
The PhD position is fully funded by the DFG for 3 years and payment is according to TV-L.
PhD Position in the group of Véronique Orian-Rousseau, Karlsruhe, Germany
I am looking for a creative and motivated student to join my research group for a PhD at the Institute of Toxicology and Genetics, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Karlsruhe, Germany. Our group focuses on the study of the molecular mechanisms of action of cell adhesion molecules in tumor progression and metastasis with a focus on CD44. We have recently demonstrated a role of CD44 in Wnt signaling. CD44 is involved in activation and in maturation of LRP6. The proposed project aims at further dissecting the molecular mechanism of action of CD44 in this pathway.
Candidates should a sound background in cellular and molecular biology.
Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English are expected.
