COS HeidelbergStellenmarkt

The Faculty of Biosciences at Heidelberg University invites applications for

Three Professorships “Molecular Organismal Biology”

at the Centre for Organismal Studies (COS) to be occupied starting October 2022.

The successful candidates (f/m/d) shall support and expand research activities of COS in the areas of either

  • developmental signaling (tenured W3)
  • developmental neurobiology (open rank: tenure track W1 or tenured W3)
  • physiology (open rank: tenure track W1 or tenured W3)

Applicants are expected to address fundamental and important questions in molecular organismal biology of animal models and have innovative research programs that promote collaboration with colleagues at COS and the Heidelberg life-science community. Successful candidates will integrate into existing research consortia (e.g. CRC 1324) and/or participate in initiatives aimed at creating new collaborative networks. The professorships contribute to teaching in the biosciences within the study programmes Bachelor “Biowissenschaften”, Bachelor ”Biologie (Lehramt)” and Master of Molecular Biosciences.

COS is a vibrant research centre dedicated to elucidating the development, physiology and evolution of plants and animals using molecular biology, cell biology and genetics. COS comprises 24 independent research groups and offers excellent conditions for research and teaching in an international environment. Our work is supported by the CellNetworks Core Technology Platform (Deep Sequencing, Nikon Imaging Center, electron microscopy and Metabolomics). A detailed description of the research and teaching activities of COS is available on the COS webpage https://www.cos.uni-heidelberg.de/en .

We are seeking candidates at the full professor level (tenured W3) for the position in developmental signaling. The professorships in developmental neurobiology and physiology are open to candidates on both entry levels (tenure track W1 or tenured W3). A tenure track professorship (W1) will initially be limited to six years and, following a positive tenure evaluation, will be converted to a permanent W3 full professorship. The evaluation statute is available on https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/university/staff/career/tenure-track .

In accordance with Article 51 (Higher Education Act of the state Baden-Württemberg), the appointment to a tenure track professorship requires a completed degree, an excellent doctorate and pedagogical aptitude, which has generally been proven through teaching experience. If you spent time employed as a research assistant (before or after your doctorate), this employment and the period of your doctoral studies combined should not exceed six years. The appointment to a full professorship additionally requires either a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, or equivalent qualifications (Article 47, Higher Education Act).

Please submit your application including the application form (https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/md/zentral/application_form_cos.pdf), CV, publication and third-party funding lists, teaching experience, previous research activities, future research projects and references with contact details in a single PDF to the dean of the Faculty of Biosciences at Heidelberg University, Prof. Dr. Jochen Wittbrodt, Im Neuenheimer Feld 234, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany, direktor@cos.uni-heidelberg.de, no later than 15.09.2021.

Heidelberg University stands for equal opportunities and diversity. Qualified female candidates are especially invited to apply. Disabled persons will be given preference if they are equally qualified. Information on the application process and the collection of personal data is available at https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/en/job-market .
